Tour Highlights
From Molo Brin, we will head towards the Sacred Well of Sa Testa, a well-preserved archaeological site that highlights the importance of water in Nuragic ritual practices.
In a predominantly agro-pastoral society, water played a fundamental role not only for the survival of the community but also in the religious and ritual sphere, including practices linked to ordeal rituals.
The Sacred Well of Sa Testa features architectural elements typical of Nuragic structures, such as the tholos vault, the monumental staircase, and large stone lintels. As in other Nuragic places of worship, the site was enclosed by betyls and included a courtyard with a staircase, a vestibule, and the well itself.
A few kilometres from Sa Testa, another key monument of the Nuragic civilization cannot be missed: the Nuraghe Riu Mulinu. Located in a strategic, dominant position overlooking the Gulf of Olbia, the nuraghe stands on the hill of Cabu Abbas, the name by which it is also commonly known.
The toponym recalls the ancient Roman presence: Caput Aquae referred to the point where a large spring ensured the water supply. In this area, the Romans later built the aqueduct that carried water to Olbia.
The nuraghe still preserves its monumental defensive wall and a massive lintel. From the highest point of the site, the central nuraghe tower can be identified.
The final element that allows us to understand the Nuragic civilization is linked to funerary rituals: the Giants’ Tomb of Su Monte ’e S’Abe, located southwest of Olbia.
Due to its impressive size, it is considered one of the largest Giants’ Tombs in Sardinia. The archaeological site, characterised by its typical bull’s head-shaped plan, consists of a large semicircular exedra and a curved stele, which leads into the burial corridor (allée couverte) of dolmenic tradition.
By visiting the Giants’ Tomb of Su Monte ’e S’Abe, we will enter the world of Nuragic funerary rituals, discovering the connections between this ancient culture and the broader funerary traditions of the Mediterranean.
